Escanaba July 21, 2015

Today we head out after breakfast and drive to Escanaba, WI which is on the lake.  It was a long, painful drive for both of us since we were inland and the scenery was really bland.  We crossed over from Wisconsin to Michigan at Menominee and stopped at the grocery and liquor store.  When we were about 10 miles from the hotel, we found a casino complex called the Island Resort and Casino.  We stopped in and had lunch and played a little but although it was a nice place, neither of us had any luck there and were anxious to get to the hotel.  We stayed at the Comfort Inn and it was relatively new and very nice.  I did laundry and it was light outside until almost 10:30!  Since it was 53 degrees outside we decided to sleep with the window open rather than use the AC…the traffic made for a not so restful night….oh well.

  1. I don't remember if I asked you this before - do you reserve a hotel ahead of time? Meaning - is your trip planned pretty strict time-wise before you even leave home? I want to do something like this - you make it sound so interesting! But I might have to roll it into visiting baseball parks and watch my Mariners on a road trip if that's an option. Something to think about if I can EVER afford a vacation again.

  2. Carol...yes we plan it out ahead of time and reserve the rooms. Mainly because the first time Debbie and I did a road trip we only reserved the room at Niagara and we learned the hard way not to do that again. We decided to stop for the night and even in the small towns there were no rooms available and poor Debbie had to drive another 100 miles to get to one that had a room. It was September so I didn't understand why they were all full. It seems that most are totally booked every week with business people. This trip we had a hard time even doing it ahead because it was July and prime high season for people doing what we did...circle the lake and Upper Peninsula. There just weren't a lot of options so we were glad we did it or we would have been sleeping in the car. We have passed a lot of ball parks on our travels and I try to take photos for you and post them.
